Global Destination Sustainability Index

Malmö Convention Bureau, which is a part of Malmö Tourism, uses the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS Index) for meeting destinations to track its sustainability ranking. In 2017, Malmö was ranked 9th in the world among all destinations using the GDS index.

Since 2016 Malmö Convention Bureau has been working ambitiously with the ISO20121 sustainability certification, which was achieved during 2017. This effort also contributed to the ranking in GDS index 2017 where Malmö climbed three positions, to number 9. The sustainability focus during 2017 meant implemention of ISO20121 in our internal processes and the day-to-day work.

“Our goal is for Malmö to be one of the most sustainable meeting destinations in the world. During the coming year we are committed to raising the ambitions of sustainability work done in Malmö even more. We will do this by sharing knowledge and to encourage and facilitating cooperation within the meeting industry in Malmö.”, says Camilla Ekberg, Project Manager at Malmö Convention Bureau.

The GDS Index – Global Destination Sustainability Index, http://gds-index.com/

was developed by MCI Sustainability Service in collaboration with the founding cities. GDS-Index methodology measures and compares the social and environmental sustainability strategies, policies and performance of the participating destinations. To compare performance, destinations are benchmarked across the following key areas:

  • Environmental performance
  • Social Performance
  • Supplier Performance
  • Convention Bureau Performance
