The Malmö Festival
Time:
17 August, 2012 - 00:00 - 24 August, 2012 - 00:00
From 17–24 August, everyone’s welcome to the Malmö Festival, one of Sweden’s biggest urban festivals, with 1.4 million visitors in 2011! The festival is totally free and has something to offer everyone, regardless of age, interest and musical taste.
The programme is packed with events in the fields of music, theatre, art and design. There’s always something to see and lots of sales stands if you feel like a bit of shopping. The big food market on Gustav Adolfs torg offers food from all corners of the world, with a focus on organic and sustainable products. This summer all food stands will also be offering both sample portions and at least one vegetarian option.
Every year the festival uses a new design concept, and this summer we want to recognise handicrafts, whose association is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Knitting in particular will be attracting a lot of attention, and the aim is to “knit in” everything from the statue of King Karl X on Stortorget to smaller statues, trees and lamp posts within the festival area, to give visitors an amazing experience!
The Malmö Festival has worked on green issues for many years, and in the last two years was rewarded with the prestigious “A Greener Festival Award”.
