The musical Les Misérables at Malmö Opera, is based on Victor Hugo's novel with the French original title Les Misérables.
The story is a work that calls for human compassion and hope even when faced with opposition and injustice.
The novel is about the poor forest worker Jean Valjean who is sentenced to five years hard labor for stealing bread.
