Children’s choice

barn på lekplats

There are more than two hundred playgrounds in Malmö, and twenty or so of them are specially designed themed playgrounds. There are footpaths and cycle paths all over the city. And children are never far from a bathing site – all year round!

KLONK - Leka leta ljud

27 August the interactive artwork ”KLONK – Leka leta ljud” reopens! It is one of Malmö Live’s most important projects for children during the year and offers a magical world filled with sounds and exciting visuals.

The floor, roof and walls are transformed with sounds, lights, colours and projections. Here children can discover everything from the fundamental principles for sound to playful audio pieces that are performed by musicians.

KLONK is open for the public the following dates: 27 and 28 August, 3, 4 and 10 and 11 September.

Themed playgrounds

At the themed playgrounds, children can play among farmyard animals, space rockets or spiders – each place has its own creative theme. You can find the playgrounds on this website.

Pedestrian street

The one kilometre long pedestrian street in the city centre makes it easy for you to take along both prams and toddlers with energy to burn. Families with children can happily go on a little shopping trip through the city, taking the occasional break for an ice cream and a coffee. Why not stop off for an enjoyable round trip on the pedal boats in the canal? There are also plenty of cycle paths in Malmö, with no difficult slopes to worry about during walks or bike rides.

Beaches for families

For children who love swimming, there’s the shallow Ribersborg beach close to the city centre with its sandy beach, large grassed areas and ice cream kiosks. Bigger children might enjoy the bathing jetties on the neighbouring Sundspromenaden and Scaniabadet. There’s also a popular skateboarding park, Stapelbäddsparken. The bathing area in Sibbarp, a few kilometres to the south of Ribersborg beach, is also shallow and child-friendly.

A popular indoor swimming pool is Hylliebadet, a newly built bathing facility with pools and water slides. It’s only a few minutes away by train from both Malmö Triangeln station and Malmö Central Station. (Buy a family ticket before you get onboard.)

Visit Malmö museums

Malmö museums are popular all year round. These comprise Malmöhus Castle (Malmöhus slott), the Science and Maritime House (Teknikens och sjöfartens hus), the Governor’s House (Kommendanthuset) and a Science Center. Children can crawl down into a real-life submarine and gaze at creatures in the newly renovated aquarium (opens May 2015). Outside are the green spaces and playgrounds of Slottsparken and Kungsparken.

Miniature golf

Miniature golf is available at two places close to Ribersborg beach: Ribban Green Golf and Hylliekrokens Golfcenter. In Folkets park there’s also crazy golf, where you can putt your ball between miniature versions of the Turning torso, Zlatan Court and the Öresund Bridge.

Emporia shopping mall

Emporia shopping mall is one of the biggest in the Nordic region. It houses more than two hundred shops, a 7D cinema, play areas and a nursing room. It’s only a few minutes away by train from both Malmö Triangeln station and Malmö Central Station. (Buy a family ticket before you get onboard.)

Tram and the fishermen's huts

The City Library has an excellent location right next to Slottsparken and a fairytale playground. From there you can take a ride on the museum tram which runs on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer. It stops right outside the library. You can get off at the fishermen’s huts (“fiskehoddorna“) and look at fish and shellfish on the sales counters in the huts. (Open Tuesdays-Saturdays, all year round.)
